Nitisha Thakwani Early Life and Education
Born in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Nitisha comes from an academically rich background. Her father is a professor, and her upbringing was rooted in the values of hard work and discipline. Later, her family shifted to Delhi, where she currently resides in Hauz Khas, South Delhi.
Nitisha completed her schooling from Convent of Jesus and Mary, New Delhi, choosing PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology) in Class 12. Her academic journey took a leap when she cracked the JEE Mains and secured admission to the prestigious Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi in 2013.
She pursued her Bachelor of Engineering from NSIT and graduated in 2017, opting for Sociology as her optional subject during this period, which would later play a pivotal role in her UPSC preparation.
UPSC Journey and Achievement
Nitisha’s UPSC journey is a powerful testament to resilience and focused determination. Despite being in a demanding job, she attempted the Civil Services Examination twice but didn’t get her desired service. However, she did get selected for the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) and even began training — but her heart was set on the IAS, and she chose not to join.
Her third attempt turned out to be the charm. In the UPSC CSE 2024, Nitisha secured AIR 133, finally achieving her long-cherished dream of becoming an IAS officer.
Her success story is not just about cracking one of the toughest exams in the country, but about doing so while juggling a high-pressure job, balancing aspirations with realities, and never losing sight of her goal.

After graduation, Nitisha joined Deloitte Consulting US India as a Business Technical Analyst and worked there for two years. During her corporate stint, she also began preparing for the CAT exam, a decision that would once again mark a major turning point in her academic journey.
Her efforts bore fruit when she cracked the CAT exam in 2018 and secured admission to IIM Kozhikode. She completed her MBA in 2020, and it was during these two years that she began laying the groundwork for her UPSC preparation alongside her management studies.
In November 2023, Nitisha began working as a Management Consulting Analyst at Accenture Strategy & Consulting. However, her dream of serving the nation through the Civil Services remained unwavering.
Interests Beyond Studies
When not immersed in work or studies, Nitisha enjoys playing badminton and is an avid reader of self-development books. These interests have helped her stay grounded and focused throughout her UPSC journey.
