1. DGT and Shell Launch EV & Green Skills Training Program

Context

  • As India accelerates its transition to a green economy—backed by schemes like FAME and state EV policies—there’s a growing demand for skilled manpower.
  • To fill this gap, MSDE’s vocational wing partners with industry to build ecosystem readiness.

Content

Background & Participants

  • Launched on 12 June 2025, the program is a collaboration between DGT (under MSDE), Shell India, and Edunet Foundation. 

  • Implemented across select ITIs and NSTIs in Delhi‑NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. 

Multi‑Tier Training Structure

  • Advanced EV Technician Course: 240 hours, offered at 4 NSTIs.

  • Job‑Oriented EV Skills Course: 90 hours, available at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported EV labs.

  • Foundational Green Skills Module: 50 hours, at additional ITIs without labs.

Curriculum & Certification

  • Curriculum co-developed by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT. Focus areas include: EV systems, diagnostics, battery tech, digital tools, and safety.

  • Includes Training of Trainers (TOT) for ~250 instructors.

  • Successful trainees to receive co-branded DGT–Shell certification and structured placement support. 

Infrastructure & Industry Linkage

  • Establishment of dedicated EV skill labs in the partner ITIs/NSTIs for hands-on training.

  • Placement support integrated to enhance industry connections. 

Strategic Relevance

  • Aligned with national net-zero goals and FAME scheme, encouraging EV adoption and infrastructure buildout.

  • State-level EV policies (e.g., Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Delhi) further boost industry demand and green jobs.
